How to Make Our Blood Orange Martini at Home

January 4, 2018

Can’t make it into Hula’s to sip this classic? Here’s how you can make the signature cocktail at home.

Vodka of your choice
X-Rated Blood Orange Liqueur
Orange Juice
Cranberry Juice
Lime Juice

Step One:

Prepare your ingredients, barware and martini glass. Get your orange ready, this is your garnish. At Hula’s, we garnish our Blood Orange Martini with an orange wheel. You can do this at home by slicing off the polar ends of the orange. For presentation, make sure that you are cutting deeply enough to not only remove the white pith but to expose the flesh of the fruit, too. To make your wheels, continue to slice crosswise, making thin slabs that are around a quarter-inch.

Step Two:

Combine your vodka, liqueur and juices. Fill your shaker with ice. Try to give your ingredients ample room to move around. Seal up your shaker after the ingredients are added. Hold your shaker with two hands and shake vigorously over your shoulder. A good rule to follow when shaking is to shake until the count of 10 or until the outside of your shaker frosts up. Now go ahead, shake it like you mean it!

Why do we shake cocktails? Most martinis have a high alcohol content and can range from 20 to 30 percent ABV. A good shake helps dilute the mix and makes for a more enjoyable cocktail, as shaking tames the alcohol and opens up the flavors.

Step Three:

Strain the shaken ingredients into a chilled martini glass.

Step Four:

Sit back, relax and enjoy!
